ARTHUR RIVER CRUISES

The MV George Robinson is a steel & timber vessel built to pre war plans, the interior is fitted out in local Tasmanian timbers and brass. This vessel will take you on a leisurely cruise 14 kilometres up the beautiful Arthur River. The Arthur River is the only true remaining natural river in Tasmania, neither it nor its tributaries have ever been logged or dammed and the rainforest you will visit has not suffered a major bush fire in over 650 years.
The diversity of the forest is its beauty. Although no Huon Pine grows here, the biggest and darkest Blackwood trees grow in abundance as do Tassie Oak, Sassafras, Myrtle, Leatherwood and giant Man Ferns to name but a few. No need to worry if you don't know the difference our guides and all local people on the rainforest walk share their knowledge of the vegetation and their knowledge of the local history is second to none. |
After your walk in the forest you return to an undercover clearing for a BBQ luncheon comprising of meat, five assorted salads, bread rolls, a glass or two of wine followed by tea or coffee. In all you will spend about two hours in this magical setting.
Upon your return to the vessel the cruise continues back down the river. A sighting of the rare White Breasted Sea Eagles cannot be guaranteed but 99% of the time they are waiting for the boat to appear and for their special treat. Special clothing is not required for the tour but visitors are advised to wear appropriate footwear, ie strong walking shoes with grips on the sole as you will be walking on natural bush trails should you decide to participate in the walk.
